A Zoo Story Evaluation

Although I believe my play to have been a success for many reasons, there are also many reasons why I feel it wasn't as good as it could've been. There were many complications during the rehearsal procedure which impeded me and my partners ability to work on certain aspects of the production. Both during and after the show me and my partner received positive reactions from the audience, the use of a minimalistic set kept the audience focused and engaged on the play, the quiet chirping of birds and wind breezing  also retained the feeling that we were in a park. My partner and i chose to have an image of a park on the background to further reiterate the outside feeling but sadly a member of the tech crew had failed to display the image of the park behind us somewhat losing the immersive feeling of the play. As discussed before with my partner the use of a red flash whilst stabbing him was captivating to the audience and made it seem more dramatic. This was further show...

Timeline/Working on A Zoo Story

Myself and other classmates decided to hot seat in our characters, we felt this would be a good opportunity to get a deeper understanding of the role and the person we wish to play them as, bringing a further sense of realism to the character. Had a lesson where we focused on referencing and correct structure of writing. Rehearsed outside multiple times in various public parks, sometimes receiving positive feedback which we incorporated into the show and made it better.  Upon reading the whole script multiple times, my partner and i decided that there we sections of one of us talking for far too long that we felt would get boring for the audience rather quickly, so we cut it in a way that when skipped it still flows consistently and to the audience it is as if its how it supposed to be, for example these 3 pages of text where it is just one of us speaking. During rehearsals both my partner and I decided to be off script as soon as possible...

Unit 12 Proposal

Role in the play Rationale Overall I want the production to be a success that not only leaves them questioning the deeper meanings of the play, but also enjoying it and having a fun time watching it throughout. In order to make my production a success like I want, there are many things that I will need to make it how I want it to be. The areas of research I looked into are: I watched Andras Ostroms short film of a Zoo Story. Read different reviews on other productions that people had created to see what worked well for them and what they could've improved on. Looked at an analysis of the play. Read different publications of the script to see what was sometimes taken out or replaced. Looked into the history of the play and discovered that it was written by Edward Albee in 1958, it was the first play he wrote and did it in 3 weeks. Spoke to my classmates and got their opinions on it and some of their ideas that they could see working well for the show. I want to provi...

A Christmas Carol Evaluation

A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens in 1843. There are many themes surrounding the play such as greed, hate money, change etc. I feel that as a class we explored these themes and portrayed them quite well, if given more time and less direction I feel it would've succeeded more.  One of the things that I think held us back was the misdirection from certain teachers, I felt as if I would be able to have more of an inclusive, integral role to the performance but was instead given supporting roles and told I couldn't help with certain aspects of the performance such as front of house or advertising. This made me feel useless as I have worked on the technical side of the shows before and have always felt like I did it to the best of my ability, so after being told to dedicate all my time to the acting side, I felt a bit bored and let down. For many of the rehearsals I felt a lack of dedication or enthusiasm due to the nature of simplicity of my roles, I felt as if the...

Unit 11 Essay

“Is theatre as effective when performed by only one gender?” In order to understand the effectiveness of single gender plays, we must first look back at the history of theatre itself. Theatre originated in Greece which started around 532 BC with a main focus on the theme tragedy.   Plays would be exclusively performed by men, this is because the Greek culture believed that women were in an inferior position to men, so women’s' role in society was very restricted in many ways. Women were not allowed to be on the stage because it was considered "dangerous." This meant that men played both male and female characters.  The Greeks believed that allowing women to perform publicly would be too dangerous and that having men portray them neutralised the danger. In addition, women did not participate in plays because drama was part of a festival only for men involved with the worship of Dionysus. But women had their own festivals and during these they may have played...

Child Labour

Image
Child Labour in the Victorian Era The time of child labour in the Victorian era was a cruel unforgiving time, but allowed many industries to flourish such as the workhouses referenced in the play “A Christmas Carol” when Scrooge and the solicitor and talking and they say   "And the Union workhouses?" demanded Scrooge. "Are they still in operation?" "They are. Still," returned the gentleman, "I wish I could say they were not." ( The front of a Victorian workhouse ) This shows that regardless of the time of year (Christmas) the main priority of the workhouse was to stay active and make money. The people who worked in them were usually very poor, in debt, orphans or people who were unemployed, this means that the workhouse allowed you to have a place to stay which provided you with food and clothing, but meant you were subject to working however long the owners of the workhouse decided. The rules were not any different for children; th...

Higher Education Essay

Higher Education There are many choices into further education that one could pursue such as drama schools, university courses, foundations courses etc. But there are also many pros and a con when pursuing further education; below is a table of just some of the examples of both sides: Pros of further education Cons of further education Human Capital - Certain jobs will require a Master’s or PhD. If you have an idea of what you want to do after you stop studying (and with rational expectations you should appreciate that this point will eventually come) find out which qualifications you need to do it. Fees - These are not limited by the government and can vary substantially. Typically the fees for Master’s courses are much higher than for PhDs each year. Fees are also highly variable. Some will be as ‘cheap’ as £3,000/year while others will be far higher than this, with the most expensive fees in excess of £15,000/year. Signal...
